Congratulations! The Mustang boys and girls have already won their first two duels of the season! Great start!
Girls won 93-90
Guys won 103-93
For the ladies, the meet was very intense all the way through the last event. The girls started off strong though with a 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place finish in the Medley relay. Raynee Buckley pushed to 2nd place in the 200 Free (dropping nearly 3 seconds off her season best time), along with Candace Yong and Emily Tomek with a 4th and 5th finish. The ladies swept the 200 IM, with Brittany Sunderman, Megan Klasna, and Chelsea Fisher respectively (all three girls bettered their season best times as well). Sammy Triba and Angela Weaver took 2nd and 4th places in the 50 free (both teammates dropping time). Courtney Kobold won the diving portion of the meet. Mandi Caudle, Fisher, and Miriam Tucker took 1,3,4 in the 100 Fly. Triba sought revenge in the 100 Free, but settled for 2nd, along with Tory Fox and Weaver taking 4th and 5th. In the 500 Free was Caudle, Buckley, and Klasna - taking 2,3,5. The girls showed some power in the 200 Free Relay (Triba, Fisher, Buckley, Caudle) by taking 1st by about a second. The 'B' relay took 3rd (Weaver, Yong, Tomek, Sarah Kruger). Brittany Sunderman was barely touched out in the 100 Back but got a time of 1:06.00 and a 2nd place finish. Along with Jessie Morris, and Ali Gabriel taking 3 and 4. Fox put up a good fight in the 100 Breast, but couldn't manage to get the south girls. With a Time of 1:13.67 though, she qualifies for state! Yong and Tomek took 4th and 5th with good swims as well. And to end off the meet, the girls attempted to win the 400 Free Relay, but instead just took their automatic cut time, and a 2nd place and called it a day. The girls won the meet by only 3 points! Great job ladies!
The guys went into the meet with the mentality: "we haven't won a meet against South in over 4 years..." And that was their determination all the way through the meet. The guys started off the meet with a 1,2 finish in the Medley to start racking up the points. Jeff Libov, Rance Ristau, and Kevin Falck took 3,4,5 in the 200 Free, all helping with the points. Miles Ritchie and Jeremy Huang took 1st and 2nd in the 200 IM, with Ritchie getting a Secondary cut time for his first time swimming the event. The 50 free is always an exciting race, and it definetly was. Jake McClinton took 2nd with a time of 23.52, only 0.28 seconds off the auto cut time. Zach Knott and Mike Katelman took 3,4. Brad Schoreit took 1st place in the diving. Sean Roberts, Dave Reerink, and Huang took 3,4,5 in the grueling 100 Fly. Jake Cunningham got his first win in the 100 Free, with teammates Keithstone Kim, and Geoff Longley taking 2,3. The "D-Crew" battled it out again in the 500, with freshman Falck taking 2nd, and Libov and Ristau taking 3,4. The 200 Free relay went 1:38.22, which is only 0.67 seconds away from the auto state cut. But got 2nd against the Patriots, and the B Relay took 3rd. The 100 Back was swam by Justin Kofoed and Ritchie, taking 2nd and 3rd. Zach Knott swam for a win in the 100 breast, with Kim and James Yong taking 3rd and 5th. And to seal the win for the Mustangs, the guys took 2nd and 3rd in the 400 Free Relay.
The Mustangs double victory over Millard South was sweet. The boys score was 103 to 73 while the girls score was 93 to 90. The inner district rivalry is strong and keeps both programs performing at their respected best. One of the key events that ignited the mustangs was the 200 IM. Brittany Sunderman was victorious over teammates Megan Klasna and Chelsea Fisher who went one-two-three. On the boys side Miles Ritchie was the champ with Jeremy Huang garnering second place honors. Courtney Kobold and Brad Schoreit were both champs in the diving event. Mandi Caudle slashed through opponents in the 100 fly to win her second straight duel. Jake Cunningham won the 100 free followed closely by teammates Kiethstone Kim, and Geoff Longley who went one-two-three. Millard North ladies won the 200 free relay with an automatic state cut time followed by Zack Knott winning the 100 yard breast for the second straight meet. Other notable performances were posted by Jake McClinton who is inching closer to the first state automatic cut for the men, and Sammy Triba who posted two runner-up performances with automatic state cuts in the 50 and 100 free. The fastest event of the meet was the girls 100 breast with Tory Fox placing third also eclipsing the automatic sate cut.
